Expanding Access to Year-Round Youth Sports and Community Recreation

As youth sports continue to grow across Larimer County, so does the need for high-quality, year-round athletic space. As part of Phase II of The Ranch Master Plan, the Youth Hockey & Sports Facility is envisioned as a modern, multi-use complex focused on youth development, training, and community recreation.

Designed to support both ice-based and flexible flat-floor programming, this facility will expand opportunities for local leagues, families, and regional events, creating a year-round hub for athletes and spectators from across Northern Colorado.

Facility Overview

The Youth Hockey & Sports Facility is envisioned as a flexible, multi-sheet sports complex designed to serve a wide range of users and programs throughout the year.

  • Planned facility components may include:
  • Three indoor ice sheets supporting youth hockey, open skate, and recreational use.
  • Flexible flat-floor space for sports such as basketball, volleyball, pickleball, camps, clinics, and special events.
  • Upgraded locker rooms, team spaces, and support areas.
  • Spectator seating and family-friendly amenities.
  • Dedicated space for dryland training, off-season programming, and skills development.
  • Operational features to support league play, practices, tournaments, and community events.

Final configuration, location, and programming mix will be refined as the project advances.

Project Status & Timeline

The Youth Hockey & Sports Facility is a Phase II project currently in schematic design. During this phase, the project team is studying key elements such as three ice sheets, flexible flooring for multi-sport use, locker rooms, and back-of-house efficiency, safe and clear circulation for families and athletes, and the overall seating and viewing experience to ensure the facility is functional, flexible, and built to serve the community’s long-term needs.

Project sequencing, delivery approach, and public-use timelines will be confirmed as design advances and Phase II infrastructure coordination continue.
