The Ranch Events Complex to Implement Weapons Detection System

(Loveland, CO) - Larimer County’s Ranch Events Complex, in partnership with Oak View Group (OVG), will begin a phased implementation of weapons detection technology at The Ranch, beginning with Blue Arena for the 2026 Larimer County Fair PRCA Rodeo, scheduled for August 2–4, 2026.
The enhanced screening system is part of The Ranch’s continued commitment to public safety as the campus grows alongside Northern Colorado and advances through the next phases of the Ranch Master Plan.
The Ranch has long maintained a prohibited-items policy for Blue Arena and other campus facilities. This implementation updates the technology used to help monitor and enforce existing safety policies.
The Ranch has partnered with CEIA OPENGATE to support this effort. OPENGATE weapons detection systems are designed for high-capacity walk-through screening and can be used in a variety of indoor and outdoor entrance environments.
Beginning in August 2026, guests entering Blue Arena events will be screened as part of the venue’s standard entry process. The system is designed to allow guests to move through screening more naturally and efficiently than traditional methods, while supporting the work of trained security personnel. Bags, prohibited items, and other event-specific entry policies remain subject to inspection and enforcement.
“Blue Arena already has established safety procedures and a prohibited-items policy in place,” said Thomas Carrier, General Manager of Blue Arena. “This technology allows us to strengthen how we support and enforce those procedures while maintaining a smoother entry experience for guests. The safety of our guests, staff, performers, athletes, vendors, and partners remains central to how we operate.”
Blue Arena’s clear bag policy will remain in effect. Guests are encouraged to review the list of prohibited items before arriving and allow appropriate time for entry. Items prohibited by policy or identified through screening may be denied entry, require additional screening, or require guests to return them to their vehicles.
“The Ranch is a major public gathering place for Northern Colorado, and our public safety practices must continue to evolve with the size, complexity, and importance of this campus,” said Conor McGrath, Managing Director of The Ranch Events Complex. “This implementation is an investment in better tools to help us provide a safe, consistent, and welcoming environment.”
The weapons detection system will first be used at the Larimer County Fair PRCA Rodeo in Blue Arena from August 2–4, 2026. Following that initial implementation, the system will be used for all Blue Arena events and phased into additional Ranch facilities over time.
